The Memphis Grizzlies are a professional basketball team based in Memphis, Tennessee. They are part of the NBA's Western Conference and play their home games at FedExForum. The team has been around since 1995 and has become one of the most beloved teams in the city. If you haven't been familiar with the Grizzlies or just want to learn more about them, let's explore some of their history and accomplishments!
The History of the Grizzlies
The Grizzlies were founded in 1995 as an expansion franchise of the NBA. Before moving to Memphis in 2001, they were located in Vancouver, Canada for six years. In those six years, they made two playoff appearances but did not have much success on the court. When they moved to Memphis, however, things began to turn around for them.
In 2003-2004, they made it to their first ever playoffs as a team from Memphis under head coach Hubie Brown. That season was also notable because Pau Gasol became an All-Star while playing for the Grizzlies; he was also named Rookie of the Year that season. The following year saw even more success as they set a franchise record with 50 wins. This was followed by three consecutive playoff appearances between 2004 and 2007 but unfortunately no championships yet!
