Clarksdale, MS

Just a couple hours South of Memphis, TN lies the small town of Clarksdale in the Mississippi Delta. This unique place is known for its rich history and culture, from its blues music heritage to its local cuisine and attractions. My husband and I were looking for an inexpensive and relaxing weekend trip we could take and decided to finally make our way down to Clarkdale. If you're looking for a weekend getaway, look no further than this vibrant city. Here’s a recap of our trip. Enjoy and book a trip. You won't be sorry.

Shack Up Inn

A trip to Clarksdale isn't complete without a stay at the Shack Up Inn. If you are looking for room service and pay-per-view (there is WiFi, no TV) than this isn't the place for you. But, If you want to really get an immersive feel of Clarksdale and life on the Delta, this is the place. We checked in at the Lobby that is also the location of the Gin Bar. This is an amazing space with live music on Friday and Saturday night.

We booked "Shorty's" shack. It has a living area, queen bed, kitchen and full bath. It is the perfect spot to relax and unwind after exploring Clarksdale. The shack looked like an old shotgun, but was solid, warm and clean. It was just what we were looking for.

Local Eats & Drinks

If there's one thing that Clarksdale is known for, it's their amazing food and drinks. The city is home to several classic restaurants where you can get delicious traditional dishes like BBQ ribs and catfish. We had dinner at Hooker Grocer and Eatery on Friday night and had great food and amazing service. We will definitely be back when it is warmer to have dinner on the patio.

Hooker Grocer and Eatery

We are big fans of good old fashion breakfast. On a Waffle House to Avocado Toast scale we are firmly on the Waffle House side. For breakfast we chose Grandma's Pancake House. The traditional breakfast plate did not disappoint and the local feel was just what we were looking for.

Since we wanted to go to Ground Zero Blues Club for some blues we grabbed dinner there. We had an amazing burger but one of the highlights of the trip was the fried pecan pie. Oh man! I dream about this dessert. It is AMAZING!! I should have taken a picture but I ate it to fast. Great Dessert AND a fantastic blues band. Five Stars!

Explore The Town

Clarksdale has plenty of sites to explore during your visit. We spent Saturday afternoon exploring downtown Clarksdale and visiting the Delta Blues Museum. This is a must see for fans and anyone wanting to learn more about the delta and the music it inspired. We were visiting on a random weekend in February but there are also some great festivals and events in the warmer months. And don't forget to check out all the local shops selling everything from handmade furniture to vintage clothing and more!
